NAKIVO Released Backup & Replication v5.8

NAKIVO Inc. has announced that it has released NAKIVO Backup & Replication v5.8. The new version can be installed directly onto a Western Digital NAS, thus creating a simple, fast, and affordable VM backup appliance, which can be used both onsite and offsite.

Cost savings, datacenter consolidation, and footprint reduction are just a few of the reasons driving the high popularity and adoption of VM backup appliances. With an appliance, all VM data protection components are unified in a single system that is fast to deploy and easy to manage, while also not consuming the valuable resources of a VMware virtualized environment. Backup appliances provide an all-in-one hardware, backup software, backup storage, and data deduplication in a single box. This results in a zero VMware footprint, less power and cooling, less maintenance, time, and money. However, these benefits come with some very high price tags, reaching as high as $75,000 per an appliance.

On the contrary, NAKIVO Backup & Replication v5.8 can be deployed even on entry-level NAS devices, as the product requires just 2 CPU cores and 1 GB of RAM to be fully operational, and still deliver high backup speeds. For example, the Western Digital DL 2100 NAS with 12 TBs of storage has a list price of less than $850 which is enough for the data backup needs of a typical VMware Essentials environment. When installed on the NAS, NAKIVO Backup & Replication v5.8 can achieve 1 Gbps backup speed with data compression and deduplication turned on, fully utilizing the available bandwidth of the NAS. In addition to backing up the VMware environment to NAS, NAKIVO can also backup the virtual environment to Amazon cloud for further protection.

“While NAKIVO Backup & Replication is already on par with or faster than competition in terms of backup performance, we are seeing up to 1.6X performance boost when our product is deployed directly on a Western Digital NAS. This is because backup data is written directly to NAS disks, bypassing file protocols such as NFS and CIFS,” says Bruce Talley, CEO, NAKIVO Inc. “The release of v5.8 opens up new market opportunities for NAKIVO and our 900+ solution partners, by enabling our customers to convert Western Digital NAS devices into high performance VM backup appliances. Deployed on a Western Digital NAS, NAKIVO Backup & Replication delivers high speed VM data protection, global data deduplication, VM backup to cloud, as well as instant VM and granular recovery at a price point that can help SMB customers save money and offload most the VM backup processing from their VMware environment.”

Named to “Top 10 Virtualization Startups you’ll Hear about in 2015” by TechTarget and “Top 20 Coolest Cloud Computing Vendors of 2015” by CRN, NAKIVO is delivering a new way for cloud providers, enterprises, and SMBs to back up and replicate their VMware environments onsite, offsite, and to private/public clouds more reliably, efficiently, and cost effectively. Featuring a simple and intuitive Web UI, NAKIVO Backup & Replication supports live applications and databases, enables instant recovery of VMs, files, and application objects directly from compressed and deduplicated VM backups, speeds up data transfer with network acceleration, and reduces data size with global deduplication and compression.
