In the Face of Cybersecurity Risks, 99 Percent of Indian Organizations Adopt Hybrid Cloud

A recent global report released on Thursday revealed that 99 percent of organizations (those polled) are adopting a various combination of hybrid cloud architecture in India, signalling a major shift in cloud usage amid the pandemic.

According to the report by IBM Institute for Business Value (IBV) in cooperation with Oxford Economics, only 3% of respondents reported using a single private or public cloud in 2021, down from 29% in 2019, establishing hybrid cloud as the dominant IT architecture.

Sandip Patel, Managing Director, IBM India, said “As organisations progress on their journey to the cloud, adopting hybrid, multi-cloud has become essential and is a clear winner in the race to become the dominant architecture for enterprise cloud estates in India,”

Cyber threats are at an all-time high, according to the research findings, and infrastructure complexity is resulting in cracked doors that cybercriminals are exploiting.

The report noted, “Yet, surprisingly, more than a third of respondents did not indicate improving cybersecurity and reducing security risks are among their largest business and IT investments,”

At the same time, in most cases, 80% of Indian respondents revealed that data security embedded through the cloud architecture is crucial or extremely important to successful digital projects,

According to 63% of respondents in India, lack of interoperability among clouds is a significant barrier to increasing business performance in some, most, or all aspects of their cloud estate.

In addition, 74% of respondents said that being able to run governance and compliance tools across multi clouds is critical or extremely critical to the success of their digital initiatives.

Patel said that “We are witnessing Indian organizations experience enterprise-scale improvements by harnessing the power of a hybrid cloud architecture to digitize their existing products and services, enhance customer experience, increase business resiliency and reduce security risks,”
