DGCA Bans certain Apple MacBook Pro laptops From Airplanes

Aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has asked flyers in India not to carry some models of Apple’s MacBook Pro laptops on flights in the country.

The order pertains to 15-inch MacBook Pro laptops sold between September 2015 and February 2017 as a result of the concerns that some of the computers feature batteries that may overheat and pose a safety risk.

The note from DGCA states:

In June this year Apple had voluntarily recalled these laptops back because of risk posed by their batteries.

The order pertains to flyers on both domestic and international flights from the country.

The new rule applies to both checked or carry-on bags.

Many overseas airlines including Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific and Thai Airways have also imposed similar ban on carrying and use of MacBook Pro laptops onboard flights.
