Discern Security, an AI-native cybersecurity posture optimization startup, has announced the successful completion of a $13 million Series A funding round led by Forgepoint Capital. The investment round also saw participation from First Rays Ventures, Growth Enjin Partners, Vela Ventures, and prominent angel investors.
The newly acquired capital will fuel the growth of Discern Security’s engineering and product teams, expand its proprietary library of “AI Skills,” and accelerate the adoption of its flagship solution — the Discern Security Loop.
Solving the “More Tools, Less Visibility” Dilemma
Modern enterprise security operations face an acute operational paradox: while AI tools uncover vulnerabilities faster than ever, the resulting flood of security findings overwhelms security operations center (SOC) teams. Furthermore, most enterprises significantly underutilize the cybersecurity stacks they purchase.
“Our data shows that customers use less than 25% of the features of the security products they buy,” stated Sai Venkataraman, Founder and CEO of Discern Security. “With our agentic loops, we can at least double tool utilization for our customers.”
Instead of adding another layer of alert noise, Discern Security’s platform unifies data across an enterprise environment to continuously evaluate, baseline, and remediate security control gaps.
How the Agentic Security Loop Works
Discern provides an AI-native security workspace designed to augment human security teams rather than attempt to replace them:
-
Contextual Prioritization: Combines reusable AI Skills, intelligent agents, and human-in-the-loop workflows to isolate high-priority control gaps based on specific business context.
-
Cross-Departmental Action: Coordinates remediation workflows across security, IT operations, and compliance teams.
-
Actionable Mapping: Links vulnerability findings back to underlying controls, assets, and regulatory mandates.
-
Executive-Ready Reporting: Translates complex technical findings into measurable, executive-ready progress reports aligned with frameworks like MITRE ATT&CK.
Industry Validation
Security leadership and cybersecurity architects across global enterprises are leaning into agentic loops to achieve continuous resilience:
“Here at Carrier, we believe in making Cybersecurity actionable with Agentic AI loops and we are excited to work with Discern and their partner Infocepts in baselining our top security metrics and improving them over time,” said Parikshit Umare, Director of Digital Transformation at Carrier. “We have a vision of continuous, resilient, and democratic cybersecurity, and new and innovative partners together with our in-house expertise can help realize that vision.”
“In the age of unlimited vulnerabilities, continuous optimization of cyber metrics is key,” added Andrew Dutton, Cybersecurity Architect at Sumitomo. “I see a huge opportunity to tangibly and quantifiably improve security metrics and posture with AI loops where we can assess, baseline, optimize, and remediate controls over time.”
Highlighting the strategic value of the investment, Rey Kirton, Partner at Forgepoint Capital, noted:
“AI can significantly improve security posture by closing control gaps with existing tools, but doing so requires a deep understanding of the organization’s environment, business context, and security stack. Discern brings that understanding into an AI-powered workspace that helps users investigate, act, and continuously improve security.”
