The resulting infrastructure complexity as a result of hybrid cloud being the dominant IT architecture has opened up cracks that cybercriminals are exploiting.

According to a global study on cloud transformation, business needs have shifted drastically, making hybrid cloud the dominating IT architecture. The resulting infrastructure complexity has opened up cracks that cybercriminals are exploiting. As a result, issues about security and compliance, as well as concerns about vendor lock-in and interoperability, remain paramount.

As per the research findings of IBM survey, security issues posed a significant barrier to boosting business performance in some, most, or all sections of their cloud estate for 54 percent of respondents in India.

Despite the fact that cyber threats are at an all-time high, more than a third of respondents did not include boosting cybersecurity and minimising security risks as one of their top business and IT investments.

Simultaneously, according to 80 percent of global and Indian respondents, data security being embedded throughout the cloud architecture is crucial or highly important, in most circumstances, to successful digital projects

The capacity to execute governance and compliance tools across various clouds is crucial or extremely important to the success of digital projects in India, according to 74% of respondents.

About 74% of respondents in India, revealed that the capability to execute governance and compliance tools across multiple clouds is crucial or extremely important to the success of their digital initiatives.

Howard Boville, Head of IBM Cloud Platform, said “In the beginning of their cloud journey, many companies dabbled with several different clouds that created complexity and disconnected piece parts, potentially opening them up to major security threats,”

He further added “Today’s finding reiterate that security, governance and compliance tools must run across multiple clouds and be embedded throughout hybrid cloud architectures from the onset for digital transformations to be successful,”

The study suggests focusing on security and privacy, which includes defining where critical workloads are located and examining who and what has access to them. The study also recommends that security controls and privacy policies are being adhered to, as well as that improperly configured assets and software vulnerabilities are swiftly remedied.

The global study which was conducted by the IBM Institute for Business Value (IBV) in collaboration with Oxford Economics polled about 7,200 C-suite executives from 28 industries and 47 countries, including 287 executives from India.
