Nokia has secured a significant deal with Vodafone Idea Limited (VIL) to enhance the telecom operator’s 4G infrastructure across India. Under the agreement, Nokia will supply Baseband and Radio modules to expand Vi’s network. By March 2025, Nokia aims to deliver almost 3,300 new sites and upgrade more than 42,000 technology sites, along with 25,000 spectrum expansions to increase bandwidth and data capacity. As of now, significant progress has been made, with 100% of spectrum bandwidth expansion, 40% of technology additions, and 15% of new sites already completed.

To address the need for hotspot coverage and improve user experience in high-demand areas, ultra-lean sites are being rapidly deployed in specific locations. These efforts are expected to support Vi’s goal of expanding its network coverage and data capacity, particularly in rural and unconnected areas, through 2025. The ongoing upgrades are set to significantly improve network performance for Vi customers.

Jagbir Singh, CTO of Vodafone Idea, highlighted Nokia’s role as a vital partner, emphasizing their collaboration to increase 4G coverage for an additional 20 million people by March 2025, alongside a 25% enhancement in network capacity. This will improve customer experiences across nine of Vi’s priority circles.

Tarun Chhabra, Senior VP & Country Head of Nokia India, expressed pride in the partnership, stressing that the ongoing upgrade will not only improve 4G mobile experiences but also lay the groundwork for a seamless transition to 5G for Vi customers.Smartphone deals.
