The AWS Summit Washington, DC (6th to 8th June), saw Max Peterson, Vice President of AWS Worldwide Public Sector, making several key announcements, and providing updates on the new innovations and transformation momentum in the public sector.
AWS Launches First GovTech Accelerator to Drive Innovation In Government – AWS is launching its first GovTech Accelerator to support the development of technologies to help government agencies address key challenges such as community engagement, deterring crime, and reducing recidivism. Participating startups will get access to an array of tools and opportunities, including a four-week virtual program, technical guidance, mentorship, coaching, and AWS cloud computing credits, to help them create scalable govtech solutions to better serve their communities. Applications for the accelerator are now open and will close on 10 July 2023. For the accelerator’s first cohort, AWS is looking for startups with a passion for justice and public safety, that are focused on addressing these challenges through data-driven solutions.
AWS Expands Partner Transformation Program – AWS is expanding its Partner Transformation Program (PTP) with a suite of Targeted Transformation Modules (TTMs) to accelerate their cloud journeys through tailored guidance and support. The new TTMs – including the Cloud Enablement Engine (CEE) and CFO Cloud Conversations (CCC) – provide topic-specific workshops that complement standard PTP engagement to help partners achieve their business goals. These TTMs are now available in select geographies including Asia Pacific and Japan, with further rollout planned for 2024.
New FHIR API capabilities on Amazon HealthLake helps customers accelerate data exchange and meet ONC and CMS interoperability and patient access rules – AWS recently added three new Amazon HealthLake capabilities that help customers meet patient access rules from the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Launching in preview, Amazon HealthLake now supports Substitutable Medical Applications and Reusable Technologies on Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources, known as SMART on FHIR, patient access APIs, and FHIR bulk data access APIs. Combined, these capabilities make it easier for our customers to authorize users and applications to exchange health data simply and securely. These new capabilities will be available in all regions where Amazon HealthLake is generally available, including US East (Northern Virginia), US East (Ohio), US West (Oregon), and Asia Pacific (Mumbai) regions.
AWS launches new skills and education programs to inspire cloud-curious students and empower girls, women across Virginia and beyond – AWS is announcing the launch of a new program, and the expansion of a second, to increase access to science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) educational programs and resources across Virginia. This includes AWS CloudRoom, a new global program created to help students ages 9-14 gain a deeper understanding of the cloud and the things it makes possible. AWS will roll out the program in Virginia at schools across the state, as well as across the US and globally.
AWS to give 380,000 students access to programs that build valuable tech skills and forge employer connections – AWS announced a new initiative to boost career readiness for learners and modernize tech programs of study across 78 educational institutions, collectively serving more than 380,000 learners. The AWS Skills to Jobs Tech Alliance will bring together a coalition of Fortune 500 companies and other employers, government agencies around the world, workforce development organizations, and education leaders to address the skills gap in community college and university curricula, and better prepare learners for entry-level tech careers. The initiative, which will initially focus on five priority regions including Illinois, New York, and Washington, as well as Egypt and Spain, will soon scale to additional regions.
